Alice, by Layla Jabbari, has been long-listed for the prestigious World Illustration Award 2023. This exhibition is its gallery world premiere! As a compelling re-imagining of Lewis Carroll’s iconic character, Alice reveals the brutal hostility of the government’s ‘hostile environment’ for refugees and asylum seekers in the UK. Refugee Week, June 19 - 25 2023, is the world’s largest arts and culture festival celebrating the contributions, resilience, and creativity of refugees and people seeking sanctuary. Website - https://refugeeweek.org.uk/
Every year hundreds of independently organised events take place across the UK and around the world.
For Refugee Week’s 25th anniversary you are invited to celebrate what compassion looks like in action. Together we can create a shared understanding of compassion to ensure we are extending it widely to all.
“Our task must be to free ourselves – by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”- Albert Einstein
